Deborah Samantha is a freelance photographer and painter residing in Atwater Village, CA. Her career has spanned both sides of the continent, bringing to her clients a unique blend of the frenetic energy New York offers and the calmness the Pacific Ocean embodies.
In recent years, Deborah began apprenticing under a master tibetan monk, studying the ancient tradition of Tibetan Painting. Secluded up in the Tehachapi mountains, she works alongside him painting and studying his techniques.
A photographer originally by trade, Deborah found herself during her last year on the East Coast rediscovering her love for painting and drawing. Between photo shoots, she would stay up at night drawing on the floor of her studio apartment, her dog slumbering by her side. Her drawings are a continuation of herself; best described as a visceral experience. The work allows others to find their own meanings within it and that is what is essential. Her constant musings on relationships are the central focus of most of these pieces.
Most often her paintings are commissioned pieces by notable working professionals in the entertainment world, such as the Sr. Segment Producer for the Tonight Show Stephaine Ross, costume designer Rebecca Gregg, actresses Vanessa Marshall and Leslie Bibb, and writers Rita Williams and Hallie Goodman, to name a few.
A documentary style photographer, she produces photographic images that honor the artist’s innate personality. Her portraits give the viewer an opportunity to see inside the artist’s world she is viewing. She also uses this same keen perception of her environment to produce landscape portraits and to look deeper into the lives of the animals and birds that reside there. Sometimes by their absence within the landscape we can see into their world and other times it is by focusing on them specifically that she explores their consciousness.
An intuitive next step in her creative process and ongoing exploration into the world around her, Deborah began creating mixed media pieces. Bringing together both sides of her creative talent, Deborah paints on top of the photographs she produces, developing a unique body of work that captures the essential qualities of her multiple talents.
